Friday, January 25, 2013 (Day 16)

Sigh….it’s time to start our journey home which will take a couple days and provide you just with boring travel details.  We woke up early at 6am and ate our packed breakfast from the hotel.  It was really nice to have that.  Then we headed over to the train station and bought our train tickets to Salzburg.  Our train was at 7:15am and it was about 1.5 hours to Salzburg, then a 20 minute bus ride to the airport.

It would have been nice to visit Salzburg for longer, but we will leave that for another trip, and hopefully a warmer trip so I can find the hills alive with the sound of music and take the Official Sound of Music tour.  =)

Salzburg was very snowy when we arrived.  The airport was very small with about 6 gates and our 45 minute flight to Vienna was on a smallish prop plane.  It was easy and then we were back in Vienna where we had about a 3 hour layover.  This was enough time for an airport lunch, some last souvenir shopping and then some time blogging on the free airport wifi.  Yay for free wifi!!

We had an easy flight to Paris from Vienna at about 2 hours where we slept most of the way and arrived in Paris at 5:40p.  We are staying at the airport CDG Hilton again which is very easy to get to from Terminal 2.  Since this is our last night together, and we are in Paris, after all, we decided to go into the city for dinner rather than eating at Hippopotamus again at the airport.  This ended up being an excellent idea.

We figured out which restaurant we had found in Paris when we were here a couple years ago that served steak and frites.  The best part is the steak comes with free refills!  Who could as for more.  All you need to know when you go in is how you want your steak cooked.  They don’t take reservations, but the line at the door was only about 5 minutes long before we got to sit at a table.  We told them how we wanted our steak and then got the set menu of salad, followed by steak and fries.  And it was mm, mmm good.  =) For future knowledge, we ate at Le Relais de l’Entrecote at 101 Boulevard du Montparnasse 75006 Paris

In typical Paris style it was a long dinner complete with a yummy dessert.  It was way too cold out side at -3C with a freezing wind to do anything else in Paris, so we went back to the airport after dinner to pack up and go to bed.  Tomorrow we say goodbye and go home….. =(  Oh, and we were interested to see there was snow on the ground in Paris.  Last time we were here, it had snowed in December and shut the city down (the airport and trains were all shut for a day).  I was a little alarmed to see the snow, but so far everything was running just fine.  I guess it wasn’t enough snow for a Snowpocalypse event.

And, since I don’t have photos from today, here are some from our waterfall hike day:
